What I Did Yesterday

People keep asking me what I do during the day now that my “retirement” has reached month seven (God, think about that for a second).  To finally get the truth out there, I figured I would post a time-line of what I did yesterday.  This is 100% truth, or at least as truthful as I remember it.

Warning – This post is pretty comprehensive with no pictures…it is basically the Crime & Punishment of Summer of Scott.  The red you are seeing right now is the only colorful thing about this post…though the post is colorful (pun!)

8:30am – Wake up, check e-mail and Pearl Jam message board.

8:40am – Make Green Tea to help combat my throat disease that has been plaguing me for the past week and a half.  Luckily, as of yesterday my voice and throat were back to about 75% healthy and today is even better.

9:15am – Toast a frozen bagel and try to decide if I am well enough to go to the gym for the first time since my throat issues started.  Decide that exerting myself to that extent would be detrimental to my health, I decide to take a long walk instead.

9:30am – Begin long walk.  I step outside and realize that it is only 68 degrees according to my iPhone and decide that another point has been put in my column in the battle of Me vs. People Who Believe in Global Warming.

10:30am – Realize that I may or may not have to go to the bathroom and I’m over two miles away from home so I better turn around and walk a little faster this time.

11:15am – Arrive back home but not before making small talk with Cathy, the Assistant General Manager of my building.  She tells me that it is the air conditioning that is making my throat weak and that I should turn it off.

11:20am – Follow Cathy’s advice and turn off my air conditioning.

11:30am – Start sweating, turn air conditioning back on.

11:35am – Hop in the shower.

11:45am – Dry off, shave and get dressed.

11:50am – Make a BBQ chicken sandwich with the leftover chicken from the night before that I made in my brand new slow cooker.

12:10pm – Finish one of my MBA summer assignments.  I had to rebuild my resume with the GWU Resume Builder.  Now my “resume” looks ugly and has about 1/2 of the information it had on it before I “built” it with their silly program.  Yeah, I’ll be using that version to apply for jobs…

12:45pm – My internet starts acting up and no pages are loading.  I am not able to email my “built” resume to its intended recipient.

1:15pm – Finally able to send my resume out.  Besides having to take three assessment tests on Monday, as part of another Summer assignment, this was the most work I’ve done in the past seven months.  Insert Marschull Ballinger’s Signature Phrase Here.

1:30pm – Take a much needed nap with Barefoot Contessa in the background.  Seriously, for some reason I was feeling especially crappy yesterday.  Must have been from all the work.

1:40pm – Mentally tell Barefoot Contessa to shut the F up, she has the most annoying voice ever.

3:30pm – Wake up from much needed nap.

3:45pm – Play trivia game on the internet which is much more entertaining than it has any right to be (How many NASCAR tracks can you name in eight minutes?)

4:30pm – Leave to meet friend Sarah for Happy Hour at 5:30pm.

4:50pm – Totally missed-timed that one…arrive at Happy Hour way too early.

4:55pm – Walk into what turns out to be the shittiest Borders Books I have ever seen.  It was like a tornado had just gone through there.  They had signs up that said “re-modeling” but if I was the manager at that place, there is no way I would have let the store look like that while it was open.  It was like the LaGuardia airport of bookstores.

5:10pm – Go to Happy Hour early and drink beer inside while watching Nascar Now on the TV at the bar.  My kind of bar!

5:30pm – Sarah arrives, Happy Hour ensues.

7:00pm – Leave Happy Hour and take subway back to my place.

7:20pm – Arrive back at my place.  I have the timing down now I think.

7:30pm – Eat more left over BBQ chicken and watch Pardon the Interuption

8:00pm – Play more of the online trivia game (for those that are interested, go to www.sporcle.com and waste hours of your time)

8:45pm – Realize that Bruce Springsteen: Live in Barcelona is on Palladia and watch it with commercials, even though I own the DVD and have seen it numerous times.

9:15pm – Get into bed and read while the Springsteen concert is still in the background.

9:57pm – Right before the first set is over, decide that I have seen enough and watch the 4th installment of the 100 Greatest Fights in UFC History on SpikeTV.  God, I’m excited for UFC100 on Saturday…

10:45pm – Turn the TV off and go to sleep

11:15pm – Realize that it is too early to actually fall asleep and walk around my apartment in the dark for a few minutes.  For some reason, this helps me fall asleep these days.

~11:45pm – Actually fall asleep

And that, ladies and lads, is a day in the life of retired Scott E. Gold.  Perhaps I will do this feature once a week so everyone can see how things are progressing, especially since school is getting closer and closer.

As always, don’t forget you can follow me on twitter at www.twitter.com/scottegold.  Recent tweets involve the dilemma of having to purchase a PC laptop for school and the caution that I received yesterday involving “deaf pedestrians”.
